some of you saw my loan question in the 389 thread. i ended up buying a 2018 Kenworth W900B, ISX15 at 450, 13 speed, 610k, through the broker in lake park. farm credit did the loan like fergus_389_hauler said they might. truck has been in my yard in Brookings since last friday.
now the part nobody explains in one place. i have my MC and USDOT numbers. the truck came with a clear title from the lender and the lien release in the same envelope. before my first load i need IRP plates because i'll be running MN, ND and IA. i need IFTA. i need the 2290 paid. and the annual inspection sticker on the frame is from march 2024, so it needs a new one.
what order does all this go in? the lady at the county treasurer looked at me like i had three heads.
order matters because each office wants proof of the one before it.
2290 first. file it online with the IRS, pay it, and you get a stamped schedule 1 back. IRP won't issue without that. the tax year runs july to june so a truck that starts in october pays a prorated amount, the full year on an 80k truck is 550.
then title it in your name at the county. then IRP through the state prorate office in Pierre, they want the title, the schedule 1, your USDOT number and your estimated miles for each state. IFTA is separate through the department of revenue, it's the license and two decals.
i'm in Minnesota so our office names are different, but the line goes the same way.
on the inspection. an annual is good for 12 months, so a march 2024 sticker is long dead. even if it had been current i'd get my own done, you don't know what that last shop actually looked at, and you're the one signing for it now.
any shop with a qualified inspector can do it, 150 to 250 out my way. bring it in with every marker light working. they'll fail you for a clearance light before they ever get under it.
did it in that order, thanks. 2290 took twenty minutes online, 412 and change prorated. title at Brookings County was the big one, the 4 percent excise on what i paid for the truck.
annual inspection at a shop in Sioux Falls, 185. failed the first time. two slack adjusters on the drives out of adjustment and a cracked clearance light lens, bismarck called that one. the slacks were auto adjusters that had seized, two new ones installed was 420. passed on the second go.
nothing the lake park photos were hiding. the brakes were at 50 percent like the listing said. seized slack adjusters are something you only find with a guy under the truck.
one thing from mine. my title and lien release came 9 days behind the truck, yours came together, so you got lucky or the lender was quicker. either way nobody at lake park can make a bank sign faster, the release is the lender's to send.
and IFTA, keep every fuel receipt in a folder in the truck starting day one. the october to december quarter is due at the end of january and you do not want to be rebuilding it from bank statements.
plates came in the mail from Pierre in 11 days. IFTA decals in 6. first load under my own authority went out last tuesday, turkeys out of Huron to Sioux City in a reefer i'm renting until spring.
scale on I-29 coming back north pulled me in, looked at the cab card and the inspection and sent me on my way. first time in my life somebody asked for my paperwork and i had all of it.
